　　British scientists may have discovered the reason why red wine appears to protect the heart. They say natural chemicals found in red wine appear to protect against blocked blood passages. The chemical substances are called polyphenols. They come from the outer covering of grapes. They are not present in other alcoholic drinks.

　　Researchers from the William Harvey Research Institute at the London School of Medicine and Dentistry carried out the study. The findings are published in Nature magazine.

　　The scientists say their discovery explains why many people in southern Europe can eat fatty foods and still have a low risk of heart disease. People in France, for example, have lower rates of heart disease than Americans do. Yet the traditional French diet includes butter, cheese and other foods high in cholesterol.

　　This led the British scientists to examine another important part of the French diet — red wine. Several earlier studies have suggested that people who drink moderate amounts of alcohol may reduce their risk of heart disease.

　　The British team experimented with cells from the blood vessels of cows. The scientists studied the effects of twenty-three kinds of red wine on the cow cells. 　　I’ve heard my own younger cousins asking me this question — why should I respect somebody just because he / she is elder to me?

　　Simply, you should show respect to everybody, even those who’re younger, especially your elders because they have done a lot for us directly and most of us owe everything to their kindness and love. 　　Airbus and Boeing say they expect China to become the world's second-biggest aircraft market, after the United States, with airlines buying a total of 1,900 to 2,600 planes in the next two decades.

　　The first skin patch (贴剂) to treat the dementia (痴呆) that Alzheimer's patients suffer from gained federal approval, a drug company said Monday.

　　The drug in the patch, called Exelon or rivastigmine, is the same as that now available in capsule (胶囊) form but provides a regular and continuous dose throughout the day, according to Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. Since the drug enters the bloodstream directly, the patch also removes some of the stomach side effects associated with other drugs swallowed.
