     2021 年 年 6 月英语四级 作文预测 1. House and Home

“House” and “home” are two words that have similar meanings. “House” and “home” both refer to places where people live. However, there is a difference between them. “Home” is often referred to as the place that we live in with our families. Sadly, in our society, people can hardly distinguish a home from a house because they often see no difference between them. This confusion can be traced back to the indifference between family members. Therefore, we can say that love is an important factor in a home. A home is a shelter, not only for our bodies but also for our minds. Whenever we are depressed, we can go home for comfort. Everyone in the family will do his best to take care of each other and share their happiness as well as sorrow. Without love, a home is merely a house where loneliness is all that can be found. And a house can never be a home unless there is love. Useful words and expressions:

     1. refer to 提到 2. distinguish 区别,辨别 3. confusion 混乱,混淆

     4. trace back 追溯到 5. indifference 不关心 6. depressed 沮丧的 2. The Origin of the Refrigerators

By the mid-nineteenth century, the term icebox had entered the American language, but ice was still only beginning to affect the diet of ordinary citizens in the United States. The ice trade grew with the growth of cities.Ice was used in hotels, taverns, and hospitals, and by some forward-looking city dealers in fresh meat, fresh fish, and butter. After the Civil War (1861-1865),as ice was used to refrigerate freight cars,it also came into household use.Even before 1880 half of the ice sold in New York,Philadelphia, and Baltimore, and one-third of that sold in Boston and Chicago, went to families for their own use. This had become possible because a new household convenience, the icebox, a precursor of the modern refrigerator, had been invented.Making an efficient icebox was not as easy as we might now suppose. In the early nineteenth century, the knowledge of the physics of heat, which was essential to a science of refrigeration, was rudimentary. The commonsense notion that the best icebox was onethat prevented

the ice from melting was of course mistaken, for it was the melting of the ice that performed the cooling. Nevertheless, early efforts to economize ice included wrapping up the ice in blankets, which kept the ice from doing its job.Not until near the end of the nineteenth centurydid inventors achieve the delicate balance of insulation and circulation needed for an efficient icebox. But as early as 1803, an ingenious Maryland farmer,Thomas Moore, had been on the right track. When he used an icebox of his own design to transport his butter to market, his butter, still fresh and hard in neat, was worth one-pound a brick. One advantage of his icebox, Moore explained, was that farmers would no longer have to travel to market at night in order to keep their produce cool. 3. English as a Crazy Language

Let’s face it — English is a crazy language. There is neither egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger;neither apple nor pine in pineapple.English muffins weren’t invented in England or French fries in France.Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat.We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes,we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.If the plural of tooth is

teeth, why isn’t the plural of booth beeth? One goose, two geese. So one moose, two meese?Doesn’t it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend, that you comb through annals of history but not a single annal? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylumfor the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital?Ship by truck and send cargo by ship?Have noses that run and feet that smell? Park on driveways and drive on parkways? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and wise guy are opposite? How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell another?English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it,but when I wind up this essay, I end it. 4. 英语四级考试作文:提升幸福感

How to Enhance Our Sense of Happiness? 1.人们对于如何提升幸福感有不同的看法 2.幸福感的提升不仅包括物质层面,也包括……

     高分范文 :

How to Enhance Our Sense of Happiness? Along with the improvement of living standards, people are no longer content with being fed and clothed adequately. They are more concerned about how to enhance their sense of happiness. To a large extent, happiness depends on individuals’understanding about it.For some people, happiness relies on material basis.without which they can’t live comfortably and decently. For others, they believe that happiness has nothing to do with money. Thus to enhance the sense of happiness is not equal to improving one’s material living standards.Instead, people are supposed to confront their life with right attitude,to be active and grateful in order to have a happy life. For my part, money does buy happiness.but only up to the point where it enables one to live comfortably. To boost one’s sense of happiness not only needs the material but also the spiritual enrichment. It encompasses living a meaningful life, utilizing your gifts and your time, living with reflection and objective. 5. The Lesson of the Bamboo

One of my fondest memories as a child is going by the river

and sitting idly on the bank. ThereI would enjoy the peace and quiet, watch the water rush downstream and listen to the chirps ofbirds and the rustling of leaves in the trees. I would also watch the bamboo trees bend underpressure from the wind and watch them return gracefully to their original position after thewind had died down. When I think about the bamboo tree"s ability to bounce back or return to its original position, the word "resilience " comes to mind. When used in reference to a person this word meansthe ability to readily recover from shock, depression or any other situation that stretches thelimits of a person"s emotions. Have you ever felt like you are about to snap? Have you ever felt like you are at your breakingpoint? Thankfully, you have survived the experience to live to talk about it. During the experience you probably felt a mix of emotions that threatened your health. You feltemotionally drained , mentally exhausted and you most likely endured unpleasant physicalsymptoms. Life is a mixture of good times and bad times, happy moments and unhappy moments. Thenext time you are experiencing one of those bad times or unhappy moments that take youclose to your breaking point, bend, but don"t break. Try your best not to let

the situation getthe best of you . A measure of hope will take you through the unpleasant ordeal . With hope for a bettertomorrow or a better situation, things may not be as bad as they seem to be. The unpleasantordeal may be easier to deal with if the end result is worth having. If the going gets tough and you are at your breaking point, show resilience. Like the bambootree, bend, but don"t break! 6. 手机的作用

     英语四级作文题目:

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay based on thepicture below. You should comment on the role of mobile phone in people"s communication. You are required to write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words. 参考范文: :

The Role of Mobile Phone in People"sCommunication The popularity of smartphones has exertedgreat influence on the way people communicate, somuch so that an increasing number of individualscontend that face-to-face communication is beingreplaced by texts and images on the mobile phone. There are more than one angle to consider this phenomenon. On one hand, it is pleasantlyacknowledged that smartphones shorten the distance between families and friends. Evenpeople

from different sides of the globe can share pictures, feelings and thoughts throughvarious types of apps on the phone, thus building a long-distance connection. On the otherhand, as the picture warns us, too much smartphone addiction interferes with people"s real-lifecommunication. Statistics show that over 70 percent of face-to-face communication consistsof facial expressions and body language, which is why people should stay away from mobilephones when they have the chance to actually talk and communicate with others. In a word, mobile phones act as an appropriate platform where people can always stay intough however long the distance is, but a wise man should know when to put down his phone.
